Qinghai is the largest province in China apart of the autonomous, which is located on the northwestern part of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in China. It borders Gansu on the northeast, the Xinjiang Autonomous Region on the northwest, Sichuan on the southeast, and Tibet Autonomous Region on the southwest. As Qinghai Province is named after Qinghai Lake, Qinghai Lake is the typical simple of Qinghai, which is also famous for the yaks and the Tibetan antelopes. Outside Xining lie two notable attractions:

The Kumbum Monastery (Tibetan: sKu 'bum dKon pa)(塔尔寺, tǎ'ěr sì), one of the most important Yellow Hat Sect monasteries, lies 30 km outside Xining. It also features the Hall of Yak Butter Sculptures.

Qinghai Lake (青海湖, qīnghǎi hú) is another tourist attraction. The lake is the largest saltwater lake in China, and is also located on the "Roof of the World," the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. The surrounding area is made up of rolling grasslands and populated by ethnic Tibetans. Most pre-arranged tours stop at Bird Island (鸟岛, niǎo dǎo). An international bicycle race takes place annually from Xining to Qinghai Lake.

The climate here is cool. Its average temperature is approximately -5 to 8°C, with January temperatures ranging from -18.2 to -7°C and July temperatures ranging from 5 to 21°C. It is also prone to heavy winds as well as sandstorms from February to April.

Zorro 吕婷 Lu Ting

Chinese name: Luting (吕婷) the first name is comparatively rare in China, while my last name is a character often describing a girl who's fair ,beautiful and elegant. My parents give me this name but I'm afraid I've failed their expectations due to my boyish disposition

English name: Zorro. I guess most of you guys must be familiar with the movie The Legend of Zorro. Yes! That's the reason for my choosing this name. As a matter of fact, I was deeply fascinated with his thrilling experiences, charming personality and disposition and i wish to be a person like him.

Hometown: My hometown is Zhu Ma dian (驻马店) in Henan province .When mentioned about Henan, most people will instantly come up with a word "Crowd". That's true. Located in the central China, Henan is the most populated province in China and is much alike Wuhan for their adjacency. So when i first came to Wuhan for university study, I felt nothing uncomfortable with the circumstances, while my schoolmates were always complaining about the weather, food, crowd population etc.

There's a specialty in my hometown called Hot and Spicy Paste Soup which can't be found anywhere else.It is a kind of past made up of many ingredients ,such as peanuts, vermicelli(粉丝), diced beef steak, kelp(海带) and so on. It 's been my favourite food since i was a little kid and I've been missing it so much since i came to Wuhan, so every time i come back home I'll have a lot of it .

Henan plays an important role in Chinese history. City Luoyang(洛阳) and Kaifeng (开封) was chosen as China's old capital for several times. It once was China's cultural and political center and has cultivated numerous brilliant people and culture. The great philosopher Laozi, father of Daoism and once enlightened Confucius , was born in Henan. It's the same condition with Dufu, crowned as the Saint of Chinese poetry. The famous Shaolin Temple is also located in our province.

Major: I'm an English major in WHUT and I love American culture.

Hobby: I'm crazy about music ,and hiphop music is my favourite. I like wearing my earphones all the time ,because i just can't live without music .of couse i won't play it when I'm talking with people ,but still i wear it.Dancing is also another important part in my life. I like performing on the stage and enjoy the screaming and shouting from the audience.

Short term plan: Recently i just formed a dancing crew with 10 members or so .I hope to practice dancing more during my college life and this is also a preparation for my graduation concert. I need to explain, actually, I plan to hold my own concert next year when i graduate and i need my dancing team can help me for the concert.

Long term plan: I dream about being a singer ,or at least ,anything related to music, even though I'm majoring in English. I love music so much ,i just don't know whether i'll be happy if i do other work.Currently ,i just try to join in more music competitions or performances to seek opportunity.

My favourite Motto: Just do it!

Sally 吴敏 Wu Min

Profile: No. 3

Chinese Name:
吴敏 Wu Min

Connotation : Min is deprived from the core ideas of Confuciousm known as modesty, tolerance, credit, brilliancy and wisdom, which means intellect and quick in mind and action, although it’s rather a commonplace name.

English Name: Sally

Connotation: “Sally” was choosen as my English name from a pile of names just for the sake of the melodious pronunciation which reads crisp and clear as the wind bell rings. It embodies a simple, pure image of a girl. And later on, I discovered that “princess” should be the original meaning of this word from Greek, which enable it more preferable to me. And I wish I could be the princess of what I’m engaged in and enjoy every moment of my life happily.

Hometown: Dangyang, Yi Chang, Hu Bei

Renowned Sites in My Hometown: The Great Three Gorges Dam, the world's biggest water conservancy project, attracts millions of people from both home and abroad every year. The marvellous scenery in Three Valleys have also aroused a great number of people. And the county I live in is famous for the buddism and Zhao Zilong, one figure in ancient Three Kingdoms.

Motto: 路漫漫其修远兮,吾将上下而求索

The way ahead is long and has no ending; yet high and low I'll search with my unbending will.
I believe life is meaningless unless we add meaning to it. On the long journey toward happiness, we are destined to be confronted with piles of ordeals one after another. However, where there is hope, there is a way. Life is bland but never mediocre and it's not your resonant voice that declares you the figure of history but your sacrifice on certain cause. Just be patient enough to embrace the day that belongs to you. I say to myself: I walk slowly, but I never walk backwards. Indeed, nobody could step into the same river at a second time. I torture while I enjoy; I shed tears of pain yet I laugh into a blossoming flower; I speak with my head high yet I completate with my head low. Life is too long to tell but too short to experience. Just keep faith in mind and God will be with us.

Hobbies: Watching films or TV serials ; Reading & Recitation; Writing poems; Music Appreciation; Language acquisition; Appreciation of soft music etc.

Major: English

Future Plans: Short-term: Endeavour more on my French acquisition; Read a novel; Review all the lessons

Long-term: To be admitted into my dream university in postgraduate education

Favourite poets: Cao Xue-qin; Li Qing-zhao; Li-bai; Lu You, Yeats etc.

About poetry: Poetry is the highest form of a language. Poems brings about tranquility and profound and beautiful images with rhythm and rhyme together, which can distract us from depression. Some people consider poems as poison or opium-----once getting close to it, you will be addicted to it and never be able to drag ourselves away from it. Nevertheless, those beautiful lines always help eliminate the volcano in your undulate heart. And the excitement overwhelms you when the flood of thoughts dance into the characters in front of you, either solemn or warm , it's as natural as the flow of a bottom-cleaned stream that purify your soul and drive away the thick fog of life and clouds of misfortune. It injects into you the enthusiasm towards life by appreciating the sorrow and happiness as tides go up and down at every minute and the flowers blossom and fade. All the stream of emotion jumps into rhythm of dismay or delight Comfort can be seen between the lines since you witness the mischievous way of the others even worse than yours.

Favourite stars: Zhao Ya-zhi; Jia Jing-wen; Liu Yi-fei; Zhou En-lai

Experience: My life has been always in spring although sometimes it appears to me that the chilly winter attacks me since time will heal everything. I love to stay with friends. It enables me to understand myself better while taking them as mirror. From those busy but meaningful events I participate I learn to be mature; surges and flatness alternating, I sense the pulse of enthusiastic life. Being a drop of water myself, I only reflect the beam of sunshine. I like to get close to nature and appreciate even the most subtle beauty in the world. As a result, I learn to perfect myself through getting touch with my friends and participating in some activities. I am able to calm down myself through the trips and the delicate scenery refines my life.I loves whatever life has provided with me yet I expect the unexpected future full of miracles.

Linda 高银 Gao Yin

Profile: No. 1

Chinese Name: 高银(Gao Yin)

Gao, my family name, meaning “high” in Chinese, while Yin is silver. Since my younger brother happens to be named as Gao Jin, often one jokes that if I had two more sisters or brothers, then there would be a Gao Zhu and Gao bao, and my family will be full of gold, silver and jewelry. Interesting, isn't it? Actually, I am not rich at all. Though not being reduced as a social zero, I am nearly at the bottom of the wealth ladder. But I am not disheartened at all, for I firmly believe that our success is measured mainly by how far we can go from the starting line instead of where we are standing NOW.

English Name: Linda

It is given by my first English teacher, Miss Wu, when I was at the fourth grade in the primary school. I cherish this name as much as I respect and commemorate her, for her courage of admitting a mistake in front of all the students, and for her sincerity of apologizing to someone who is just a kid. Yes, you're right. I am the kid. It happened like this there is an “interest class” after school hour which is open to all the students who are interested in English. I enrolled in this class, along with students from other grades and classes, being taught by Miss Wu. During one period, she taught us the song named Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

As every tragic story always goes, I sang out of tune when she called out my name to give it a shot. It's not unfamiliar for me to be laughed at by the peers under such circumstances since I am a universally acknowledged bad singer. The point is I caught Miss Wu bursting into laughter ,too. It's my last straw. The feeling of embarrassment peppered with anger overwhelmed me. How I wish there could be a black hole that swallows me in and shut everybody out!

After this little incident, I did not go back to the interest class any more. Although I chose to go skiing after school with my friends, my interest of English never declined. Then one day, when I was skiing on the icy road in the school, one of my best friends came to me. She told me she had something important to ask me and let me follow her to the door of a classroom. Foolishly, I followed her up until the door of our interest class without the slightest doubt of her intention. All of a sudden, the door opened and she dragged me in. Miss Wu asked for my forgiveness. I was nearly moved to tears if I did not see my treacherous friend's smiling face. For at that moment, I really thought I am very lucky since I had such a good teacher who is so considerate and caring, I had such a nice friend who is so helpful and smart.

Birthplace: Zao Yang, Hubei province, China.

How do we define homeland? Is it simply the land where you are born in? Perhaps not. Because there are so many connections unutterable in this sense. I remember an immigrant once said that if one hasn't been abroad one can hardly comprehend the connotation of homeland. The same theory can also be applied to hometown, too.

As for me, there are two towns which have the magic of arousing my homecoming feeling. One is my birthplace, Zao Yang, another is the capital, Beijing, where dwells my two years' childhood memory.

According to the chronological order, please allow me to introduce my hometown first. It's in the northwest of Hubei Province. Tourism, agriculture, textile, tobacco and wine industry also prosper here. My hometown is not only notable for its abundant resources but also for its ingenious descendants. The Emperor of Dong Han Dynasty, Liu Xiu is my fellow townsman. Owing to him, my hometown is nicknamed as the hometown of emperor, too. There is also a contemporary celebrity in my hometown, too, whose name is Nie Haisheng. Chinese people must be very familiar with him. The Shenzhou Six Spaceship not only sent this astronaut to the outer space, but also let the reputation of our hometown regain its old day glory.

Even if all these merits are absent, I still love my hometown more than any other cities. Though it is not as affluent as Guang Dong, not as mordern as Shanghai, not as beautiful as San Ya, it is still the one and only place I'd like to come back to after an exhausting journey, for my relatives, my home and most important of all, my roots are there.

Next comes to my second hometown, Beijing. I took it as my hometown not because of its key status in China, but because of my personal emotion involved in it. Whenever I thought of Beijing, the scene of aunt's boiling milk for me in the wintry morning came back to me, and the warmth soon radiates in my heart; the scene of the maple trees against the cerulean sky came alive, and the companion smile creeps on my lips; the scene of my playing hide and seek, police and thief, attack and defend with boys in the neighbourhood came to me...

All these memories are so fresh to me, as if they just happened yesterday. But they are bygone stories too. I cannot go back to the place as I cannot be a 6 year old girl again. The place and people now only survive in the depth of my heart. I'm sure, due to the unforgettable impression they have left on me, they can easily withstand the erosion of time.

Major: English Major in Foreign Language School Of Wuhan University of Technology.

Future Plan:

Further my English study in a graduate school after graduation. My ideal job is to be a SOHO(Small office, home office). Unlike others, I am not afraid of being alone at all. More often than not, it not loneliness that kills me, but the noisy environment that is unbearable. Anyway, I am still open to other job opportunities on condition that they are beneficial for my self-realization.

Characteristics:

Very paradoxical, indeed. Here are a few pairs I found in my self:

Confident vs self-doubt conscientious vs careless diligent vs lazy

Humourous vs serious friendly vs indifferent

Generally speaking, I am a good egg.

Hobbies:

Reading, writing, tennis, table-tennis, cooking, listening to music (esp, country music), watching TV, and sleeping if it can be regarded as a hobby.

Height: 172cm.

One of my former roommates, June, asked me not to wear high-heel shoes while going out with her for that would exhit a very dramatic contrast in terms of our height. Actually, I have only two pairs of high-heel shoes, one for downpour days, the other for heavy snow days.Apart from the aforesaid two occasions, I seldom wear high-heel shoes. So friends like June need not have worried about that at all.

Weight:

It's a secret I will never tell (A sentence copied from Gossip Girl). Actually I am losing weight now after the operation. Therefore, some classmates joked if someone wants to become slim, he or she would better follow my suit and take an operation. That might be another story, then. Wants to know how to lose weight after an operation? Please follow my later project.

Project: Glittering Pebbles: A Galaxy of Reminiscent Essay on Hospital Life

Motto: There is no desperate situation. And there is only someone who feel desperate about the situation.

Ideal Abode:
A two-storey house at the ridge of a mountain, facing a great lake, furnished by hardwood furniture instead of cold and emotionless metal ones. In a word, I want my next door neighbour is nature, the unpolluted one, of course.

Favorite Date:

Wednesday. In fact, I have a personal Wednesday Theory. It goes like this, once Wednesday is passed, the happy weekend is at the corner. Perhaps you may wonder if I like the leisure weekend so much, why do not I take weekends as my favourite dates then? It simply because I enjoy the process of anticipating more then the end itself.
